Sally's life's passion has been drawing and painting from an early age. Though not formally trained, she has taken several years of community art classes from the local university with Professor Bruce DeFoor, and workshops from artists including, Dawn Emerson, Karen Margulis, Robert Burridge, and Dreama Tolle Perry, to name a few. Starting in watercolors, she has since expanded into pastels, acrylics, and mixed media. Painting from her own photographs, en plein aire, still lifes, or commissioned pet portraits, her paintings are primarily representational with some more impressionistic and others more realistic. Her subjects are varied and the colors New Mexico has to offer are her inspiration. Landscapes, barns, churches, flowers or animals, her creative instinct chooses which medium works best for each painting, sometimes combining mediums for unusual effects.
Sally joined Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and has enjoyed meeting other plein aire painters from all over and sharing the love of painting on location. Sally is proud to be a member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico and a member of "Let's Paint New Mexico" which showcases paintings from photos all over the state. She shows her work in 2 summer shows, Lincoln County Art Loop and Alto Artists Tour. In addition, her work is in Josie's Framery and Gallery in Ruidoso, N.M. She teaches workshops in pastel and acrylic as well, and always enjoys learning herself! She hopes that each of her paintings brings the viewer or owner as much joy and love as it does Sally creating each piece.
